Practicum Blog Proposal
For my practicum blog I hope to be able to observe a senior here at UNC Charlotte named Ricky Matthews. He is a meteorology major and forecasts the weather for the school, runs the “UNCC Weather” twitter account, is the president of the STORM club, and is thought of in high regards in the meteorology major here at UNCC. I chose Ricky as the person to observe because he contributes to the human experience in a multitude of ways. Not only does he spend his time studying and practicing his own passion for weather, but also he posts his forecasts on social media so that the public can be aware of any severe weather or even light rain that could potentially occur. I believe that working hard and pursuing one’s goals, as well as being a person that contributes something to others around them, fulfill a big part of the human experience and Ricky Matthews is a good example of that kind of person. Also, I am currently a meteorology major myself, so it would be neat and informative for me to get to spend time with an upperclassman in my major so I could gain insight to the pros and cons of pursuing this career path. I might see things from a more hands on approach and it could help me decide if I would still want to continue meteorology. Ricky and I plan to meet in the McEniry meteorology lab on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays in the afternoon to do this project. Exact times to rendezvous will be determined week by week based on our schedules and whether we are busy. My back up plan is to observe a leader of Cru, a Christian club on campus, since they provide religious services and outreach for students. I am a part of that organization myself, so it would be an interesting experience to see how the planning for the club gatherings all come together. However, observing Ricky Matthews would be most preferable for me academically. It would allow me to fully satisfy my curiosity and investigate the meteorology major here at UNCC. I am eager to start this project and I hope I receive your approval.
